On 11 and 16 June, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised an Energy Efficiency Workshop, bringing together representatives of SMEs and industry professionals from across Cyprus to strengthen their knowledge and skills in energy management and energy efficiency.
The workshop was particularly timely given the ongoing implementation of the new Energy Efficiency legislative framework in Cyprus, which transposes the revised EU Energy Efficiency Directive. The new framework introduces enhanced requirements related to energy audits, energy management systems, and the systematic monitoring of energy consumption. As businesses prepare to comply with these obligations, there is an increasing need for practical knowledge and tools that can support their transition towards more energy-efficient operations.
The two-day programme focused on establishing the foundations of effective energy management and understanding how businesses can identify and implement energy-saving opportunities. Participants were introduced to the principles of structured energy management, the importance of setting clear energy objectives, and the role that energy efficiency can play in improving competitiveness and reducing operational costs. The training also explored practical approaches for identifying energy-saving measures and prioritising actions that can deliver meaningful results for businesses.
Participants gained insights into how businesses can collect and analyse energy data, set realistic energy performance targets, and monitor progress over time. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of adopting a systematic approach to energy management and embedding energy efficiency into daily business operations through ongoing monitoring and improvement processes.
Throughout the workshop, participants also had access to the IMPAWATT platform and other practical tools developed through the EcoSMEnergy project. Designed to help SMEs assess their energy performance, theses tools identify improvement opportunities, and take informed decisions regarding energy efficiency investments and actions.
The workshop generated strong engagement and valuable discussions among participants, reflecting the growing interest of Cyprus businesses in improving their energy performance and preparing for the evolving regulatory environment. Beyond compliance, participants explored how energy efficiency can contribute to lower operating costs, increased resilience, and improved sustainability performance.
