In May 2026, the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised two hands-on EcoSMEnergy training sessions to help manufacturing SMEs take a more systematic approach to improving energy efficiency. Led by energy efficiency expert Jānis Kļaviņš from KIWA Latvia, who also developed the project’s training materials, the sessions combined expert guidance with real-life examples from leading Latvian companies.
The first training, held on 12 May, introduced participants to a process-based approach to energy efficiency improvement. Working with their own energy consumption data, companies explored practical ways to identify opportunities for improvement and discussed how to turn insights into action.
A key highlight was the active involvement of manufacturing companies. Participants heard from WILL SENSORS, which shared how industrial sensors and automation can support energy management, before visiting SAF Tehnika, where company representatives showcased their experience with energy monitoring, operational decision-making, and continuous efficiency improvements.
The second session, held on 27 May at pharmaceutical manufacturer Olpha, continued the practical learning experience with a site visit. Participants gained first-hand insight into the company’s energy efficiency initiatives, including its renewable energy investments and the development of a solar panel park. MESH Wise Buildings also shared how smart building technologies can help businesses improve energy performance while increasing competitiveness, meeting regulatory requirements, and creating healthier working environments.
The strong participation of SMEs demonstrated a clear demand for practical, experience-based learning. Company visits, open discussions, and peer-to-peer exchanges were consistently highlighted as the most valuable parts of the programme. As one participant noted:
“Continue organising such trainings and continue involving real stories and examples, as well as visits to companies.”
By bringing together SMEs, industry experts, technology providers, and host companies, the EcoSMEnergy training sessions created an environment where participants could learn directly from real manufacturing environments and leave with practical ideas they can apply in their own businesses. The events complemented the training materials and tools developed through the EcoSMEnergy project, helping turn knowledge into action.
