Enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in NACE code sectors C20 to C22 and C25 to C29

Project

The EcoSMEnergy project aims to offer a holistic solution to address energy challenges of SMEs in NACE code sectors C20 to C22 and C25 to C29, with tangible impacts on energy efficiency and sustainability, while aligning with EU directives focused on energy efficiency and promoting clean energy transitions.

Its primary objective is to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability of SMEs in the targeted sectors by means of a broad range of activities that deal with challenges related to energy efficiency, lack of awareness, motivation, or access to financial solutions.

Activities

Scoping studies

Two scoping studies assess SMEs’ energy performance: one analyses the energy consumption of targeted companies and benchmarks the selected sectors, while the other evaluates companies’ awareness regarding energy efficiency and explores the factors influencing the adoption of energy-efficient measures by SMEs.
 

Energy Audits

In the frame of the project, 20 energy audits are carried out to identify energy wastage, recommend improvements, and promote a culture of responsible energy management.
 

Capacitiy Building

Business Support Organisations, energy auditors and SMEs are trained with the objective of increasing the adoption of energy efficiency measures among SMEs. Different tools and methods are used, ranging from energy audits over dedicated workshops to digital tools and platforms (e.g. the Impawatt platform and the Energy Efficiency Hub for SMEs).

Access to Finance

The project seeks to facilitate access to finance for SMEs in the targeted sectors by providing guidance and support for securing funding for energy efficiency measures. Round tables are organised involving SMEs, credit institutions, and public administration. A catalogue with funding opportunities in the participating countries is put at SMEs’ disposal via the Impawatt platform.
